Wikipedia and other sites on strike

18 January 2012

On Wednesday, January 18, 2012 there will be an online protest regarding the impending decision on the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA). Some websites will be shutting down out-right (Wikipedia, Reddit, WordPress, Imgur and many others) and there is some speculation that Google/YouTube, Mozilla and Facebook might be altering the functionality or appearance of their sites as well in some capacity. The protest is expected to take place roughly during the business hours of this one day and the sites are expected to resume their full functionality on Thursday, January 19, 2012.

Ran along beach 4 Oct 2011 from this public beach access at 2nd Ave, Southern Shores, North Carolina, to the US Army Corps of Engineers Pier at Duck, NC, seemingly on the horizon to the north, about 3.26 miles. Sea oats reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniola_paniculata

Raleigh Venom, Erin’s NC rugby team, played yesterday at Colmar Manor, Maryland

22 August 2010

Raleigh Venom, Erin’s NC rugby team, played yesterday at Colmar Manor, Maryland, in the shadow of the Fort Lincoln cemetery. This is said to lie on land given in 1632 by Charles I. There’s a spring house dated 1683: http://www.hmdb.org/Marker.asp?Marker=5070. My shot from the sidelines shows the mausoleum, and beside it, the Little Church, said to “feature the largest collection of privately owned stained-glass windows in the Washington metropolitan area, including windows depicting the Quest for the Holy Grail.”
